Right in Time
Right in Time explores the work and working relationship of artist couple Frea Buckler and David Abbott.
This exhibition of painting and sculpture considers each individual practice in the context of a steadily unfolding creative dialogue within the quotidian framework of family life. Right in Time celebrates a conversation of making that flows without hindrance between the artists’ own studios, over breakfast at the kitchen table or on walks with the dog.
Each of the pieces in Right in Time show David and Frea taking a long view of an artful life, one that draws inspiration from the busy push and pulls of a household and absorbs them as equally valuable.
Whilst so much of their creative dialogue is shared, David and Frea also work in the ebb and flow of their own individual practices across the year. They work with different subject matter, in different mediums. Right in Time, however, dwells on the centrality of improvisation to both artists’ practices, whilst celebrating the wildly different visual responses to this shared methodology.
David and Frea have shown work together in group exhibitions previously, most recently in South by South West at Gurr Johns, London, but Right in Time marks their first duo show.
About the artists
Frea Buckler studied Fine Art at Central Saint Martins and an MA in Multidisciplinary Printmaking at the University of the West of England, Bristol. She has presented solo shows in London, Dublin, Brussels and the USA. She has participated in group shows internationally with galleries including Swinton Gallery, Madrid, Espace Transmission, Montreal and Davidson Gallery, New York.
Frea has been commissioned for projects by organisations including Facebook, Imperial Health Charity, Ginkgo Projects and Denver Art Museum. Her work is held in many private collections. Public collections include the University of Warwick, University of Edinburgh, Trinity College Dublin, Imperial Health Charity Collection, The National Archives of Ireland and the Office of Public Works, Ireland.
David Abbott grew up in Hertfordshire, moving to Virginia as a teenager where he attended high school and university before returning to the UK in 2004. He has exhibited work across the UK, Europe and North America. Recent exhibitions include Look Out at Close Gallery, Somerset; Ships in the Forest at Maya Frodeman Gallery, Wyoming; A Day in May at John Martin Gallery / Spirit Studios.
David and Frea live and work in Bristol.
