We are delighted to continue FRIDAY FINKERS, our regular programme of outstanding documentary cinema at Linden Hall Studio. Taking place on Friday afternoons, these carefully selected films explore history, culture, science, politics, society, nature and remarkable human stories.
Designed to inform, challenge and inspire, Friday Finkers offers an opportunity to encounter new perspectives and enjoy thought provoking documentary filmmaking in the intimate surroundings of the gallery.
A BUNCH OF AMATEURS, directed by Kim Hopkins, is a warm, funny and deeply affectionate portrait of Bradford Movie Makers, one of Britain’s oldest amateur filmmaking clubs.
Once a thriving institution, the group now finds itself facing dwindling membership, mounting debts and a crumbling clubhouse. Its ageing members, however, are determined that neither the club nor their shared passion for cinema should disappear without a fight.
Following them through eccentric productions, technical mishaps, personal disagreements and moments of genuine tenderness, Hopkins reveals a community sustained by friendship, creativity and the simple pleasure of making something together.
The film is both an entertaining celebration of British eccentricity and a moving reflection on ageing, loneliness, belonging and the importance of having somewhere to feel needed.
