Frea Buckler is a British artist whose practice spans painting, printmaking, sculpture, installation and public art. Working with colour, form and found materials, she creates abstract compositions that move fluidly between two and three dimensions.
Her work is characterised by a strong sense of rhythm, balance and improvisation. Painted surfaces, structures and objects are brought together intuitively, often incorporating reused, discarded or repurposed materials. Through this process, Buckler explores ideas of adaptation and transformation, allowing materials and compositions to evolve through the act of making. Colour is central to her practice, functioning not simply as surface but as a means of creating movement, tension and spatial relationships.
Buckler studied Fine Art at Central Saint Martins before completing an MA in Multidisciplinary Printmaking at the University of the West of England, Bristol. She has presented solo exhibitions in London, Dublin, Brussels and the United States, and has exhibited internationally in group exhibitions, including with Swinton Gallery, Madrid; Espace Transmission, Montreal; and Davidson Gallery, New York.
She has undertaken commissioned projects for organisations including Facebook, Imperial Health Charity, Ginkgo Projects and Denver Art Museum. Her work is held in private and public collections, including the University of Warwick, the University of Edinburgh, Trinity College Dublin, Imperial Health Charity Collection, The National Archives of Ireland and the Office of Public Works, Ireland.
Buckler lives and works in Bristol. Her work has also developed through an ongoing creative dialogue with artist David Abbott, with whom she has exhibited collaboratively, including their first duo exhibition, Right in Time - coming to Linden Hall in October 2026.
