Although relatively new to our gallery, Iain Robertson has been a prominent figure in contemporary art for decades. Born in Cyprus in 1955 and raised in Edinburgh, he studied art between 1978 and 1982 and now lives and works in Cornwall.
Robertson’s abstract paintings are known for their layered surfaces, gestural marks, and evolving forms. Rather than depicting external subjects, his work charts the process of painting itself, creating expressive, immersive compositions.
Now, Robertson’s paintings are also on display at the Rose Hotel. This new presentation offers a fresh way to engage with his work outside a traditional gallery setting. Visitors can experience the scale, texture, and intricate detail of his paintings in a more intimate, everyday environment, seeing how his abstract compositions interact with light and space in a dynamic context. It’s an opportunity to encounter Robertson’s art in a setting that encourages closer, more personal reflection, complementing his current exhibition at our gallery.
We invite you to visit both our gallery and the Rose Hotel to explore the work of this talented artist and experience the depth and vibrancy of his abstract vision.
