On Friday 26 September 2025, Linden Hall Studio welcomed artist Claire Sparkes to lead our latest creative workshop: Bunch of Veg – Gestural Charcoal & Watercolour.
This fun, full-day session invited participants to work from life-size vegetable arrangements, developing observational and gestural drawing skills while experimenting with expressive tonal charcoal and loose watercolour washes. The focus was on combining energy and precision, capturing the essential qualities of each subject through bold mark-making and layered techniques.
By the end of the workshop, attendees had created a study sheet of notes and experiments alongside a finished charcoal and watercolour composition. The day was both instructive and inspiring, encouraging artists of all levels to expand their practice and embrace new approaches to mixed-media drawing.
As always, the workshop atmosphere was enhanced by a buffet-style lunch prepared by The Dining Club of Deal, served alongside tea and coffee, making for a day that was as social as it was creative.
