LINDEN HALL STUDIO PRESENTS
FILM SERIES VII - THE SOUND OF CINEMA
26–28 March 2026 | Deal, Kent
Deal, Kent - Linden Hall Studio presents FILM SERIES VII - The Sound of Cinema, a three-day programme exploring the role of sound as a central expressive force in film. Taking place from 26 - 28 March 2026, the series brings together five landmark works of international cinema, each chosen for the way sound - whether music, dialogue, ambient noise, or silence - shapes meaning and emotional experience.
Linden Hall Studio is an independent contemporary art space in the heart of Deal, known for its carefully curated exhibitions and cultural programmes. Alongside visual art, the gallery has built a strong reputation for its film series, which offer audiences the opportunity to experience cinema in an intimate, focused setting, supported by informed introductions and discussion.
Now in its seventh edition, the film series has become a key part of Linden Hall Studio’s programme. This year’s focus shifts attention away from the image alone, inviting audiences to consider how listening affects the way films are perceived, remembered, and understood. The selected films span different periods and traditions, from early sound cinema to 1970s psychological drama, united by their innovative and influential use of sound.
The programme includes:
-
Le Samouraï (Jean-Pierre Melville, 1967)
-
Blackmail (Alfred Hitchcock, 1929)
-
Elevator to the Gallows (Louis Malle, 1958)
-
Pickpocket (Robert Bresson, 1959)
-
The Conversation (Francis Ford Coppola, 1974)
Each screening will be introduced by a guest speaker and accompanied by a complimentary themed drink, continuing Linden Hall Studio’s tradition of pairing thoughtful context with an inviting audience experience.
The Sound of Cinema offers a chance to revisit well-known films from a different perspective and to encounter cinema as a fully sensory art form. The series reflects Linden Hall Studio’s wider commitment to presenting ambitious, carefully considered cultural events that encourage close attention and meaningful engagement.
